I've been using the Edge 800 for about the same length of time but my
experience has been largely very positive. I agree that it has a few
bugs - I've experienced the device spontaneously adding over 22000 km to
my ride once, but it was repaired easily enough.

I disagree that turn-by-turn directions is "completely broken" or that a
"laborious workaround" is required. The following process works well
for me:

1. Create a route (I use bikehike.co.uk) and save it as a TCX file on my computer

2. Copy the TCX file to the 'NewFiles' folder on the Edge 800

That's it. Then when I want to follow the route I just turn on the Edge
800, load the route, enable turn directions (why this is disabled by
default I don't know) and press 'Go'. Not very laborious in my opinion.

Regarding the "initiate USB drive mode" issue, I believe this was an
intentional upgrade by Garmin to allow people to plug in an external
battery pack during a ride. With the old firmware (and I've never used
pre-2.1 firmware so can't confirm this) if you plugged in a battery pack
the Edge 800 would stop recording a ride, save it as a FIT file, and
switch to mass storage mode and start charging. With the new firmware it
doesn't go into mass storage mode but just carries on recording the
ride and charges itself from the battery pack.

James, yes most of these bugs are fixed now. I would recommend the 800 at this point.

I have the same problem with the Trendnet TU-S9 and have not been able to resolve the issue via their technical support. There are multiple download links on the page which one did you use? I tried the prolific one but still have the same issue.

I'm curious to see the performance the iPad2. I think the first gen is very slow, especially the browser, even with the 4.3 update. I suspect limited RAM is to blame.

I agree that there is room for improvement with multitasking. It will be interesting to see what other Android tablets come out this year. I look at the Xoom like I looked at the T-Mobile G1 a few years ago, its a nice indication of what's to come.

I wouldn't say that multitasking has been fixed. I just bought an original iPad (refurb'ed). I'm not entirely happy with it. It's very slow to switch between apps. A colleague has a Xoom, and it's much much snappier. I also really miss the Intent system from Android -- the ability to send any type of data anywhere. I think I'm going to get a Xoom in a few months when I pay off some bills.

Hello Alex same thing happened with me. Paypal still hasn't called me back. Apple gave me the same run around. Bank of America is worse than both. I also have good security on my password, use a Mac and don't do anything that would ever amount to respond to a phishing e-mail which leads me to believe that apple itunes has been compromised and the hackers are slowly transferring funds. I even read a blog post that itunes account info is up for sale to bidders so as to spread the scam around without having to do it themselves. Also just tried to go to apple discussion forum to talk about this and the forum is "mysteriously down" My guess is so many people have been hacked apple is trying to cover it up at this point. I used to like apple but my opinion is changing.

In regards to tipping in France I've heard being a full time waiter is a career path almost. Tipping is an insult to their profession. I'd be reluctant to find a person who wanted to be a professional waiter as their career in the US.

The ipad will not be synonymous with failure. It is truly one of the most ground breaking piece of technology produced to date. It does exactly what is was designed to do so why don't all of you complainers go back to your parents basement, light up your electronic cigarette and take a break.
